Visions of Horror

Welcome, fans of the Horror cinema, the month of October is always a cherishing time for any lover of the genre, even though many of us start the countdown as early as August, although like myself everyday is another opportunity to view more treasures and duds in this beloved genre. Therefore, the ground rules, friends and fans of both this site and our podcast shows have submitted movies for me to watch, some do it out of creativity while others enjoy distribution of nightmarish horrific films, sadly often not in the positive, would you let others make choices for your viewing habits. Well would you?

Let’s first take a moment to look back at the previous years concerning this month, regarding the number of horror films seen:

As you can see the number has trickled downward, though noting in 2021 it was nearing the end of Covid, I was still in mourning the loss of two close family members and some dear friends, so the number was high, then last year I was recovering for a medical issue, but this year it was down 19 from 2022 with myself venturing on trips and visiting locations. However, 133 movies still impress, hence a deeper dive is definitely required. The most popular decade was 1980s with 33 flicks, with 2010s following closely behind at 28; the oldest film on this was Nosferatu [1922] at 101-years, as for the oldest anniversary movie that honor goes to The Invisible Man [1933] that celebrated its 90th while Son of Dracula was the second eldest at 80-years-old. There were five made for television movies and three films celebrated their 50th anniversaries and for the curious readers out of the 133-films 56 were reviewed or 42%, so bad too bad, though those that enjoy our Revisiting Horrors column will have 8-flicks to recall, those are the ones celebrating anniversaries and for those most rank in with 5 to 10-year-old movies, but one on that list is unbelievable 35, Friday the 13th: The New Blood [1988].
