Trivia:
- Lizzie Borden was indeed acquitted of the murders because of the prevailing attitude of the day which did not credit women with the capacity of being able to commit this kind of crime but also because of a lack of physical evidence. The forensic science of the day determined that the perpetrator would have been splattered with the victims’ blood. No blood was ever found on any of Lizzie’s clothes or in her hair and no bloody footprints, either shoeprint or footprint was found near the victims’ bodies. This film speculates that Borden committed the murders and committed them nude because no blood evidence was ever found on any of her clothes. Blood was also not found on her hair and without the advent of indoor running water, which Andrew Borden refused to have installed, there would have been no way for Lizzie to quickly wash and dry her long hair and then dress in complicated Victorian clothing and corset and do up her hair without a maid’s help. The film speculates the Borden committed the murders while nude but never addresses the question of how she was able to remove blood from her hair and how she was able to quickly dress in stockings, high button shoes, corset, and skirts and two piece dress without the help of her maid. The film also does not address the question of the lack of footprints or shoeprints tracking blood near the victims’ bodies.
Lizzie inherited her father’s estate and lived in luxury and seclusion until her death in 1927. But, like O.J. Simpson a century later, she was widely presumed to have been guilty and was ostracized by polite society.
