While it is true I’ve overlooked some subgenres there’s no way to include them all in month, without ruining our intended format, however it allows next year to add more variation, thereby discovering new horrors to tease and tantalizing your eyes, and tattoo your memories with more nightmares.

 

WEEK 3 OCTOBER 18th to 24th

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH – SLASHERS

Candyman [1992] – The Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster’s myth.

Friday the 13th [1980] – First, there’s no horror fan, who is unaware of this film, from director Sean S. Cunningham and screenwriter Victor Miller, A group of camp counselors are stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant while trying to reopen a summer camp which was the site of a child’s drowning and a grisly double murder years before, by the time it’s over someone truly loses their head over the turmoil. While some fans like to make it an event to watch all the sequels, ones to watch parts III, Part 4, Part 6 and part 7, to have their full of slashers, psychic moments and plenty of home invasions.

Hatchet [2006] – When a group of tourists in a New Orleans haunted swamp tour find themselves stranded in the wilderness, their evening of fun and spooks turns into a horrific nightmare, which stars Kane Hodder, and directed by Adam Green, you might as well watch parts 2 and 3.

A Nightmare on Elm Street [1984] – Everyone knows this one, the monstrous spirit of a slain child murderer seeks revenge by invading the dreams of teenagers whose parents were responsible for his untimely death. Some say that parts 3 and 4 are fun ones to watch in addition.

Pieces [1982] – The co-eds of a Boston college campus are targeted by a mysterious killer who is creating a human jigsaw puzzle from their body parts.

Psycho [1960] – The classic horror film, the mother of slashers, from director Alfred Hitchcock, A Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer’s client, goes on the run, and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother. A good follow-up making it a double headed is to watch Psycho II [1983].

Scream [1996] – A year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a new killer, who targets the girl and her friends by using horror films as part of a deadly game.

Sleepaway Camp [1983] – Angela Baker, a shy, traumatized young girl, is sent to summer camp with her cousin. Shortly after her arrival, anyone with sinister or less than honorable intentions get their comeuppance.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre [1974] – Two siblings and three of their friends en route to visit their grandfather’s grave in Texas end up falling victim to a family of cannibalistic psychopaths and must survive the terrors of Leatherface and his family.

Victor Crowley [2017] – Ten years after the events of the original movie, Victor Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and proceeds to kill once more.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 19TH – PSYCHOS

American Psycho [2000] – A wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.

Circus of the Dead [2014] – A sadistic group of clowns kidnap an unsuspecting man and his daughters, forcing him to play a deadly game in order to save his family.

House of 1000 Corpses [2003] – Two young couples traveling across the backwoods of Texas searching for urban legends of murder end up as prisoners of a bizarre and sadistic backwater family of serial killers.

My Bloody Valentine [1981] – A decades-old folk tale surrounding a deranged murderer killing those who celebrate Valentine’s Day turns out to be true to legend when a group defies the killer’s order and people start turning up dead.

Saw [2004] – Two strangers awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, and soon discover they’re pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer.

Terrifier [2016] – On Halloween night, Tara Heyes finds herself as the obsession of a sadistic murderer known as Art the Clown, from director Damien Leone, this is gorehounds and splatterpunks love-fest! However, one should search out Terrifier, short film from 2011, which often can be found on YouTube.

The Hills Have Eyes [1977] – On the way to California, a family has the misfortune to have their car break down in an area closed to the public and inhabited by violent savages ready to attack.

The New York Ripper [1982] – A burned-out New York police detective teams up with a college psychoanalyst to track down a vicious serial killer randomly stalking and killing various young women around the city.

The Prowler [1981] – An unknown killer, clad in World War II U.S. Army fatigues, stalks a small New Jersey town bent on reliving a 35-year-old double murder by focusing on a group of college kids holding an annual graduation dance.

The Shining [1980] – A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20TH – KILLER CHILDREN

Alice, Sweet Alice [1976] – In 1961, a divorced catholic couple’s life is turned upside down when one of their two adolescent daughters is suspected of her younger sister’s brutal murder during her First Communion, and a series of subsequent stabbings.

 

Bloody Birthday [1981] – Three children are born at the height of an eclipse of the sun. Ten years later, they begin to murder the people around them – even their family members.

Children of the Corn [1984] – A young couple is trapped in a remote town where a dangerous religious cult of children believes that everyone over age 18 must be killed.

Devil Times Five [1974] – After five deranged children are involved in a bus wreck, they start killing people at the lodge who insulted them or were rude to them.

Don’t Look Now [1973] – A married couple grieving the recent death of their young daughter are in Venice when they encounter two elderly sisters, one of whom is psychic and brings a warning from beyond.

Orphan [2009] – A husband and wife who recently lost their baby adopt a 9-year-old girl who is not nearly as innocent as she claims to be.

The Brood [1979] – A man tries to uncover an unconventional psychologist’s therapy techniques on his institutionalized wife, amidst a series of brutal murders.

The Children [1980] – A nuclear-plant leak turns a busload of children into murderous atomic zombies with black fingernails.

The Pit [1981] – A solitary and strange preteen boy wreaks revenge on his harassers when he makes a disturbing discovery in the depth of a forest.

Village of the Damned [1960] – In the English village of Midwich, the blonde-haired, glowing-eyed children of uncertain paternity prove to have frightening powers.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21ST – MANIACS

Black Christmas [1974] – During their Christmas break, a group of sorority girls are stalked by a stranger.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer [1986] – Henry, a drifter, commits a series of brutal murders, supposedly operating with impunity.

I Spit on Your Grave [1978] – An aspiring writer is repeatedly gang-raped, humiliated, and left for dead by four men whom she systematically hunts down to seek revenge.

Intruder [1989] – The overnight stock crew of a local supermarket find themselves being stalked and slashed by a mysterious maniac.

Maniac [1980] – A psychotic man, troubled by his childhood abuse, loose in New York City, kills young women and takes their scalps as his trophies. Will he find the perfect woman in a photographer, and end his killing spree?

Murder Party [2007] – A random invitation to a Halloween party leads a man into the hands of a rogue collective intent on murdering him for the sake of their art, sparking a bloodbath of mishap, mayhem, and hilarity.

Wolf Creek [2005] – Three backpackers stranded in the Australian outback are plunged inside a hellish nightmare of insufferable torture by a sadistic psychopathic local.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22ND – DOLLS and TOYS

Annabelle [2014] – A couple begins to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their home is invaded by satanic cultists.

Child’s Play [1988] – A single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer.

Dead Silence [2007] – A young widower returns to his hometown to search for answers to his wife’s murder, which may be linked to the ghost of a deceased ventriloquist.

Dolls [1987] – A group of people stop by a mansion during a storm and discover two magical toy makers and their haunted collection of dolls, this is a cool film from director Stuart Gordon.

 

Dolly Dearest (1991) – A toy manufacturer buys the ‘Dolly Dearest’ factory in Mexico, where the malevolent spirit of Sanzia, a devil child, has taken refuge in one of the porcelain dolls, and eventually takes control of his daughter.

Magic [1978] – A failed magician finds sudden stardom as a ventriloquist when he comes across a foul-mouthed dummy named Fats. But as the pressures of stardom mount, something strange begins to happen as the dummy takes control of his human.

Pinocchio’s Revenge (1996) – A suburban defense lawyer mistakenly gives her troubled daughter, Zoe, a wooden puppet belonging to a deceased serial killer. The toy fills the void of friendship in Zoe’s life, but Zoe begins to act increasingly strange and violent.

Puppet Master [1989] – Psychics find themselves plotted against by a former colleague, who committed suicide after discovering animated, murderous puppets.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23RD – PSYCHIC POWERS

Carrie [1976] – Carrie White, a shy, friendless teenage girl who is sheltered by her domineering, religious mother, unleashes her telekinetic powers after being humiliated by her classmates at her senior prom.

Firestarter [1984] – A couple who participated in a potent medical experiment gain telepathic ability and then have a child who is pyrokinetic.

Phenomena [1985] – A young girl, with an amazing ability to communicate with insects, is transferred to an exclusive Swiss boarding school, where her unusual capability might help solve a string of murders.

Psychic Killer [1975] – A former mental patient uses astral projection to destroy the people he believes have wronged him.

Scanners [1981] – A scientist sends a man with extraordinary psychic powers to hunt others like him.

The Dead Zone [1983] – A man awakens from a coma to discover he has a psychic ability.

The Fury [1978] – A former CIA agent uses the talents of a young psychic to help retrieve his telekinetic son from terrorists, who want to use his mental powers for evil, another movie from Brian De Palma.

The Medusa Touch [1978] – Psychological thriller about a telekinetic novelist who causes disasters simply by thinking about them.

The Mind’s Eye [2015] – Zack Connors and Rachel Meadows were born with incredible psychokinetic capabilities. When word of their supernatural talents gets out, they find themselves the prisoners of Michael Slovak, a deranged doctor intent on harvesting their powers. After a daring escape, they are free from his sinister institution, but the corrupt doctor will stop at nothing to track them down so that he may continue to siphon their gifts for his own use.

Tourist Trap [1979] – A group of young friends stranded at a secluded roadside museum are stalked by a masked assailant who uses his telekinetic powers to control the attraction’s mannequins.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24TH – HOME INVASIONS

Fender Bender [2016] – In a small New Mexico town, a 17-year-old high school girl who just got her driver’s license gets into her first fender bender, innocently exchanging her personal information with an apologetic stranger. Later that stormy night, she is joined in her desolate suburban home by a couple of her school friends who try their best to make a night out of it, only to be visited by the stranger she so willingly handed all of her information to — a terrifying and bizarre serial killer who stalks the country’s endless miles of roads and streets with his old rusty car, hungrily searching for his next unsuspecting victim.

Funny Games [2007] – Two psychopathic young men take a family hostage in their cabin.
