***The Extreme in Any Manner Leaves a Lasting Impression! *** – Baron Craze
Well, there’s a lot to discuss, first I do hope the horror fans are still going to the theaters supporting the horror genre, yeah streaming is convenient but the box office is what indie horror filmmakers all dream of, look at the success of Damien Leone and Ti West, it’s great for them, and our passion for this beloved genre where it takes 49% of the receipts on average year. Are they always great – nope, so I know it’s tough, face it. The First Omen sucked, yep, I saw it but to be fair I had a free pass.
This brings me to our next topic movie titles, sometimes certain words should go together or be used as a title, for example Porno [2019] yes it’s provocative, but it is going to limit its exposure. Certain stores and sites aren’t going to carry it, or the film has a similar title to someone’s movie The Conjuring [2013] then came Conjuring the Devil [2020] which has no relation to that universe. Therefore, why am I bringing this up because I recently saw a film title on Tubi, called Death Camp, I will not be reviewing the film, why – because if you type those words into a google search engine you find information about Holocaust, it means to that one didn’t research what the title would bring back. Another reason I bring this up, is because of this new movie Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024) a redundant usage “of the” a simpler and more direct titling Planet of the Apes: Kingdom from there it allows for more adaptations. Oh, one last thing, which seems to be that some filmmakers are creating their titles with spelling mistakes to achieve recognition, however this is not going to work for them, rather backfire for a few reasons. First, most search engines are going to self-correct and secondly many fans know how to spell the common words associated with our genre; for example, possession, some have now spelt it ‘Posession’. That is like using the commonality of titles of The Door, The Lake, The Room nondescript and lack engagement.
Many realize we as a site posted more, Vincent returned to the site and 3C is writing more often, hence we encourage that aspect. I still strive to get a review done a day, of course that is only going to happen if my health continues in a positive direction and we have no problems, speaking of problems they have risen regarding both our podcast provider site and instability issues which all started in April and continued into May. What we have been able to release has been very well received so a humble thanks, as for the issues eventually they will be resolved, in addition there was another personal matter that arose and took two weeks to resolve itself. Our plan started well before all crashing downward. Nonetheless, we right the ship as there’s still time to correct the course of our Ghost Galleon attempt to finish all the reviews of films featured in the Visions of Horror Column and on the podcast of the same name.
Ah the podcast world, well we have been attempting to fix this matter too but sadly forces beyond our control have halted the shows, I know some suggest going to another platform is not as easy as one might think. It revolves around the music we use that we achieved through permission granted to us by Labels, PR Firms and Bands themselves; we are by extension promoting that music too! We are still seeking the best avenue for our 8 podcast shows which is about 45-shows behind schedule – ugh. But it has a solution on the horizon.
Some also inquired about a video feed for own trailers, well after the Great YouTube Purge of 2024, where hundreds of channels went dark because they were deemed spam because they either were cross promoting on two sites or that they were using trailers from companies with the direct permission. It goes further, some sites want the written permission from the director, writers, each cast member and each crew personnel- bonkers. So, we are looking into some alternative regarding this too
Finally, while the path is fraught with troubling seas, cloudy skies, and this ship we sail shall eventually prevail and allow our mysterious shadows to invade your world again and begin the happy nightmares.
