Every horror fan has a plan when dealing with their viewing habits in October, some go for every new flick in the horror genre, others have the dream of viewing franchises, all of them, others select one subgenre, in any case they are all wonderful. Mine was a combination of franchises and old school films with plenty of movies being rewatched countless times over, and here are the films that were anniversaries.

Dracula: The Impaler [2013]

SUMMARY: Seven high-school friends begin their Euro-trip at the actual castle of Vlad the Impaler where he supposedly sold his soul to the devil over 500 years earlier, but the decrepit castle’s past envelopes them in a bloody ritual.

WHEN I SAW IT DATE: May 2014

THE IMDB RATE AT TIME OF REV: 3.3/10

MY RATE THEN: 3.0/10

HAS MY VIEW CHANGE: No, it is still a bad film, the current IMDb rating has dropped to 3.1 and recalling for a moment it was released by Midnight Releasing, it has a dreadful and unconvincing storyline and terrible acting throughout the film.

Friday the 13th: The New Blood [1988]

SUMMARY: Jason Voorhees is accidentally freed from his watery prison by a telekinetic teenager. Now, only she can stop him.

WHEN I SAW IT DATE: April 13, 2018, which was Friday (however I seen this film a lot!)

THE IMDB RATE AT TIME OF REV: 5.3/10

MY RATE THEN: 5.0/10

HAS MY VIEW CHANGE: No, I still do enjoy this film, since the first time that saw it, I met both director John Carl Buechler (RIP) and then six months later met Terry Kiser, before then I also met Lar Park-Lincoln and of course Kane Hodder. The best scene I recall was Jason emerging from the lake, and his spine shadowing, no other sequel after this one show that detail, he, Jason always seems to get new clothing. In addition, I found the telekinesis aspect to be refreshing as well as the sleeping bag killing.

Mortal Remains [2013]

SUMMARY: A docu-thriller focusing on the life, brief career, and mysterious death of Maryland filmmaker Karl Atticus, referred to by some as the “godfather of the slasher film.” Features interviews with various historians and aficionados including Eduardo Sanchez, director of “The Blair Witch Project,” who in a 2008 interview posited the question: Why, for nearly four decades, has Atticus’s story been practically eradicated from the annals of cinematic history?

WHEN I SAW IT DATE: Too many times to list it correctly.

THE IMDB RATE AT TIME OF REV: 5.6/10

MY RATE THEN: 9.0/10

HAS MY VIEW CHANGE: Yes, slightly, I feel I would lower to 7/10 the reason is because I have other shockumentary/mockumentary rather a fake-out documentary, the premise is good and the filmmakers work to keep the cover story intact, long after the movie was released. While still not the perfect found footage film, none truly are of that subgenre, I know the trick, yet no one has contacted me about it. Regardless, there is something appealing about the movie, especially how the directors/producers stride to make feel very plausible.

Killer High [2018] (TV Movie)

SUMMARY: A high school reunion turns deadly when the school’s cursed mascot comes back to life.

WHEN I SAW IT DATE: October 2018 (first time)

THE IMDB RATE AT TIME OF REV: 4.9/10

MY RATE THEN: 4.5/10

HAS MY VIEW CHANGE: No, it’s a fairly good standard television horror film, found through Syfy, knowing that it won’t be excessively gory must be acceptable to the viewer, and the acting is surprisingly average; simply a nice creature feature.

Farm House [2008]

SUMMARY: Farmhouse is a psychological thriller set in the modern day mid-west. We follow a young couple as they leave their everyday lives behind and head out to a new beginning, starting over from scratch. After becoming stranded in an isolated Wine Vineyard in the middle of nowhere, the young couple is forced to face the secrets they’re running from, all the while trying to escape the malicious intent of the Vineyard mysterious inhabitants.

WHEN I SAW IT DATE: December 2020

THE IMDB RATE AT TIME OF REV: 5.5/10

MY RATE THEN: 5.0/10

HAS MY VIEW CHANGE: No, it is still a good solid production and a thriller, the exceptional Steven Weber does a fine job and reminds one of Jack Nicholson’s performance in The Shining. It is a gorehound paradise flick, rather a slow-burn gothic tale with cryptic shots, and tone pulling the viewer deeper into its woven story.
