Welcome to another installment of the Visions of Horror, where it asks just one question would you trust your friends, and perhaps strangers to choose what horror film you watch. Just think of letting someone else make the decision for you, they might be cool about it or ruthless by delivering terrible films. In addition, we had our annual Chompfest, this is our version of Discovery’s Shark week which is often the third week of July, but why try to complete with them and the countless others that clamor for the similar attention; besides as summer winds down more people head last flings at the beach towns, in fact summer doesn’t end officially until 21st of September. Therefore, one shark-theme flick released once a day and noted below for easy location. In sheer honesty I chose three of the films on the list, such as The Private Eyes [1980] which starred Don Knotts and Tim Conway, it is more of mystery with few light-hearted horror themes, a killer dressing like and early version of Ghostface from Scream [1996] it was viewed as I need some uplifting mood.
Let’s explore the month of 31 days in depth, however only 26-viewing-days I saw 40 horror/mystery thrillers and two are considered for the revisiting column, of which one was experimental Hitchcock film Rope [1948]. In a shocking development the most popular decade wants the 70s, rather 2010s with 15-films and 80s followed behind with mere 5 entries. There were 5-television movies and 29 movies that celebrated anniversaries of which only one was for its 50th known as Night Watch. The oldest film was The Seventh Victim [1943] hence 80-years old and followed by Rope [1948] and Abbott and Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde [1953] which was 75th and 70th celebrations respectively. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention The Horror Times most viewed review of the movie What the Waters Left Behind: Scars [2022] with over 20,000!
