This fall, I’m thrilled to be handling the ultimate celebration of monsters, monster movies, and monster movie makers co-authored by Academy Award-winning makeup artist Howard Berger and acclaimed film critic Marshall Julius. I’m eager to explore the possibilities for sharing this remarkable book with your followers.

Starting with the silent Phantom of the Opera (1925) starring Lon Chaney, Making Monsters: Inside Stories from the Creators of Hollywood’s Most Iconic Creatures (September 16) delves into the world of the greatest films ever made to answer the question: what makes a great movie monster? To find out, Howard and Marshall include interviews with more than 75 luminaries in the industry, from legendary directors John Carpenter and Wes Craven and iconic horror film actress Barbara Crampton to dozens of make-up and digital effects notables, composers, and writers. With an Introduction by actor Robert Englund (aka Freddy Krueger), this is an entertaining, over-the-top oral history of the genre that’s packed with enough insider’s insights and anecdote to satisfy even the most ardent horror movie enthusiasts.

Accompanying the text, hundreds of stunning images include film stills, movie posters, and personal, behind-the-scenes pictures provided by dozens of the book’s interview subjects. Filled with many never-before-published images and outspoken observations from a roster of monster movie A-listers, this compulsively browsable illustrated volume is the ultimate treasure trove of monstrous creations.
