Unlike most artists, reviewers of films never seem to return to the reviews, it is to them a one and done as if the return might reveal that there is further self-reflection or discovery in watching the film once more and examining the review. However, haven’t everyone perhaps watched a movie at a younger age and misunderstood the story, or the subject material was too advance only to come back realize the hidden truths. Hence this column reveals it my thoughts were correct or not.
31 [2016]
SUMMARY PER IMDB: The day before Halloween, five carnival employees are kidnapped & held hostage in an isolated compound known as “Murderworld”. On Halloween, they are thrown into a sadistic game called “31” where they must survive 12 hours against a gang of maniacs dressed like clowns. It’s time to play 31.

HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: First, thing, I am still not big fan of Rob Zombie as a filmmaker, his work leans more to a grindhouse design, however 31 does provide some hellish delights and torture-kills, which is refreshing. Nonetheless, I must not say that the rating is likely based more off of name recognition for many, although the storyline is still strong.

IMDB RATING AS 2026: 4.3/10
HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: Yes, it has gotten worse, the style of found footage has grown weaker, as it lacks believability and relies more on the trope using the computer scare of a screen switch that screams at the viewer. My understanding of this subgenre, has definitely gotten much better, and the film lacks the attention span for it.

HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: Hell no, I have always enjoyed this film, the dialogue is wacky and the violence is in overdrive and talk about the bloodshed it is an incredible thrill ride. It just has the special magic that captures the attention of the viewer and never let’s go.

HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: While the film is low-budget, the filmmakers did not let the movie reflect that standing, they stride to give it all the blood splatter including a variation of the infamous Cannibal Holocaust they included typical and tropes allowing horror fans to have their game, I still feel the same about the movie.

HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: This was the last movie before Night of the Living Dead [1968] to present zombies as voodoo influence, Hammer Studios brought a quality storyline and care to this dying subgenre. The film generates a positive amount o0f rich gothic themes but lacking the polish display mainly due lack of proper funding, therefore my decisions concerning this review remain the same.

SUMMARY PER IMDB: An archaeology professor discovers an ancient crypt containing living dead corpses. The zombies go on a rampage and attack a group of people whom the professor had invited to celebrate his discovery.

IMDB RATING AS 2026: 5.6/10
HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: Nope, I am still a fan of this flick, it has a lot of elements that remind me of Zombie [1979], and it goes further with bonkers scene between mother Evelyn (Mariangela Giordano) and her son Michael (Peter Bark). Yes, the same flawed dialogue, cheesy exploits and plot holes yet face horror fans keep rewatching this for the relentless stalking of the dead for the living.

SUMMARY PER IMDB: A rebel girl signs up a group of cheerleaders to help her take down the captain of their high school football team, but a supernatural turn of events thrusts the girls into a different battle.

HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: The movie never takes itself too seriously which is why I enjoy it, a nice distraction in life to return to watch once more and exploits a lot of satire of the typical high school hijinks, but allows some creative gore scenes, with a bit of gooey result. Watch for the specialized bear trap sequence designed by Robert Kurtzman.

SUMMARY PER IMDB: In 17th-century Hungary, elderly widow Countess Elisabeth Nádasdy maintains her misleading youthful appearance by bathing in the blood of virgins regularly supplied to her by faithful servant Captain Dobi.

HAS MY VIEW CHANGED: When it comes to the retelling of gothic tales there is a bit of sexism, Dracula gets more attention than most, but alas the Countess Elizabeth Bathory, an aging thought the blood of virgins to help her regain the beauty, history mix folk horror sadly not treated well. The movie focuses on the plot and characters to drive the entertainment, yes it slower pace than what modern audiences crave, but the selection for Bathory movies des have slim quality pickings.
