***The Extreme in Any Manner Leaves a Lasting Impression! *** – Baron Craze
Well, welcome to another new month, September is always an interesting time of the year, as it’s a scant 30-days till our favorite month of October, and as a Halloween holiday fan there’s still a lot to explore in this one month. First as you will notice we had our annual Chompfest (our second year) and to note instead of completing with Discovery’s shark week we take the last week on August, Summer in United States does not end until September 22, 2024, but it continues or is the opposite in other parts of the world. Since sharks don’t stop, they continually hunt, and films are world-wide there needs to be an understanding of this beast. Then, we noticed last year on Tubi, for example, there were a lot of shark films in July, this year that seemed to switch to the final week of August and included plenty of Gators and Crocs. Hence, it works for Chompfest, those teeth are the essence of fear, the power of the jaws and hence their inclusion: 12 Days of Terror [2004], Capsized: Blood In the Water [2019], Crawl [2019], DOA: Psycho Shark [2009], Malibu Shark Attack [2008], Meg 2: The Trench [2023], and Up From the Depths [1979]. Most of these are lame, but reviewer 3C has become more comfortable with her style so that is encouraging and our Hard Rock hound-dog Vincent did not want to be left out of the mix, so he reviewed a Great White album.
Now, it is going to be impossible to catch up on all the missing podcast shows, and all the reviews for Visions of Horror, which doesn’t mean we here at The Horror Times are going to give up and roll and die, far from it. We orchestrated a plan, we have some major treats, which shall be spread out over September and October. I don’t want to allude to much information just say we are attempting to deliver the tricks and treats over the next 60-days.
While the year isn’t over our leader board for the weirdest movie seen this year in theaters was/is Cuckoo, that film really goes extremely WTF; then others I saw include some with the practical effects is Alien: Romulus and one of the better thrillers that takes a different vein in the rape/revenge sexploitation subgenre is Blink Twice; while a very good performance would be Nicolas Cage in Longlegs, directed by Osgood “Oz” Perkins.
This brings us to a continue remembering of those lost due to mass murder over bizarre ideology reasons of thousands on innocent lives on 9/11 – two of the many more closely related to the horror industry would be Berry Berenson-Perkins (Osgood Perkins’ mother) and Charles McCrann, director of Toxic Zombies [1980].
As always, enjoy as much Horror and Halloween as you can.
