*** The Extreme in Any Manner Leaves a Lasting Impression! *** – Baron Craze
So, like so many other horror sites, this is the biggest month for the genre and fan base as it intermixes with the Halloween fanatics, and this also means something else special for The Horror Times site, it is the anniversary month of our founding date, marking a bonus our 5th anniversary. It’s been an incredible and tough ride so far – we all look forward to the next five.
Now onto other news, the month is full of events, movies in theaters such as classic films like The Mummy [1932] The Bride of Frankenstein [1935] and Creature from the Black Lagoon [1954], then Terrifier 2 [not rated] showing the independent filmmakers talents; then there’s a very special 3-D engagement for Dawn of the Dead [1978] playing exclusively at Regal theaters. Then there’s haunted house adventures and EVP sessions followed by cemetery tours. Plenty of streaming services get involved too, no longer just the networks of TCM OR AMC, now everyone’s in it, especially Terror Films and Kings of Horror on YouTube to Kino Cult (Kino Lorber) rolling out monthly guides.
Let’s acknowledge the absence of August’s Vision of Horror, as I was still recovering from my hospital stay many of the films were repeats and the days often spent resting/recovering hence we really decided there was no point in posting it. I also think we might a have new contribution from self-professed splatterpunk meets gorehound writer, though at publication I can’t confirm his style or writing ability, but I’m always willing to give a new writer an opportunity.
On podcast, the Visions of Horror is a hit, but we needed to scrap 3–weeks simply due to legal issue, something that was caught on the third week, and we did try to avoid it but there’s no way around the show will resume next week and an on-air explanation will define the issue. Of course, as most know this also the month when we roll out special Halloween themed shows to our Baron Craze Radio Network and by the end of the month on the Baron’s Crypt show it’s the annual ‘Pumpkin show.’ Oh God!
As for me, well what be said, things are a struggle the outside of my home can’t decorate, this time for a town regulation which states when a house on one’s block is up for sale all houses must remain neutral and stay positive with max curb appeal not to dissuade potential buyer its BS, we don’t belong to an HOA but it’s town law so no way around it. It is as some want to rid the fun celebration of Halloween, so better check town and state laws. Although, if your neighbors dislike you could always say it’s part of your religious beliefs.
Lastly, as most know one either decorates for Halloween year round or in August any other time is a waste, its too rushed; visit the mom-n-pop shops; yeah Halloween Spirit is cool but believe it or not Home Deport is really big into it; however check out the antique stores for those unique items; because remember buy from Spirit you are getting some 10,000 other folks will have, but at those private locations, yard sales, flea markets you shall discover something very unique that perhaps 100 people out of 300-million Americans.
*** Everyday is Halloween, Trust me I know ***
Until next month – stay healthy, safe, and enjoy all the horror you can including this site!
